Training a Pet for Modeling
Training a pet for modeling requires mastering core obedience commands, distraction proofing, and camera desensitization.
This training video demonstrates professional pet handler and animal coaching techniques used in the Fashionista Studios pet modeling program.
The handler begins with foundational obedience commands — sit, stay, and come — using positive reinforcement with treats and verbal praise. The dog responds consistently to each cue, demonstrating the baseline behavior required before commercial work begins.
The session then moves to distraction training, where the handler introduces camera equipment, lighting stands, and unfamiliar props to acclimate the animal to a studio environment.
Positioning exercises follow, showing how the handler guides the pet into specific poses — seated, standing, and lying down — while maintaining the animal's calm and cooperative state.
The video concludes with a simulated photoshoot sequence, where the pet holds position while the handler steps back, demonstrating the level of independence and focus required for professional commercial bookings.
Essential Obedience Commands
- Sit, Stay, Down, Stand
Hold positions reliably for extended periods, even when you move away.
- Distance Work
Respond to hand signals and verbal cues from a photographer or videographer standing far away.
- Hand Touch (Targeting)
Follow a hand or target stick with their nose to direct their gaze or movement on set.
Set Etiquette and Desensitization
- Camera Comfort
Introduce the camera slowly, rewarding calm behavior so your pet associates the clicker and shutter with positive treats.
- Distraction Proofing
Practice in noisy, unfamiliar places with bright studio lights, strange props, and new clothing or costumes.
- Stranger Sociability
Remain friendly, calm, and cooperative around unfamiliar crew members and handlers.

Our Training Professionals
Fashionista Pet Model Professionals
Every trainer and coach at Fashionista Studios who works with animal talent holds credentials from the industry's most respected certification bodies. We do not employ hobbyists or self-taught practitioners. Our team is composed of career professionals whose qualifications are verified, current, and aligned with the highest standards of humane, science-based animal training.
Professional trainers working with animal actors typically hold certifications from recognized bodies such as the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers (CCPDT) or the Association of Professional Dog Trainers (APDT). At Fashionista Studios, these credentials are not optional — they are a baseline requirement for every member of our training staff. Our coaches bring these qualifications into every session, ensuring that your pet is guided by professionals who understand animal behavior at a clinical level and apply only force-free, reward-based methodology throughout the program.
Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers
The CCPDT is the leading independent certifying organization for professional dog trainers. Certification requires demonstrated knowledge of learning theory, animal behavior, and humane training methodology, validated through rigorous examination and continuing education requirements. Fashionista Studios trainers holding CCPDT credentials bring a science-backed foundation to every session — ensuring your pet is trained with precision, consistency, and care.
Association of Professional Dog Trainers
The APDT is one of the most recognized professional associations in the animal training industry, dedicated to advancing the science and practice of dog training through education, advocacy, and ethical standards. APDT-affiliated trainers at Fashionista Studios are committed to ongoing professional development and adhere to a strict code of conduct that prioritizes the physical and psychological well-being of every animal in our programs.
Animal Talent & On-Set Professionalism
Beyond general training credentials, our coaching staff includes professionals with direct experience in commercial production environments — having worked on-set with animal talent for print campaigns, broadcast commercials, and editorial shoots. This industry-specific experience means our trainers understand not only how to train a pet, but how to prepare them for the specific demands of a professional modeling career.
All Fashionista Studios training staff credentials are verified at the time of hire and maintained through annual continuing education requirements. Credential documentation is available upon request during the enrollment consultation.
